I honestly love their dishes and service, great location next to my apartment. The workers are always helpful. Would recommend to others.
Date spot here! With its wooden decor and small intimate space, it's great to cozy it up over nigiri and drinks!
Hamachi truffle carpaccio was so delightful as a starter! Ganbei (Cheers) with complimenting hot sake!
Walu nigiri was smooth. Mackerel nigiri was my favorite! Smoky Barracuda nigiri was the savory bomb! Toro was omega rich, yum! Amaebi was fresh and they maximized the shrimp head by soaking it in miso soup and used it as a flavorful soup that complimented well with everything. It was a nice finishing touch to the whole meal.
Nom-my!
Good sushi, innovative creations. A little heavy handed of some of the seasonings (more American style than Japanese) but food was good enough overall that I'd go back.
A few minor niggles that make it 3.5 rather than 5 stars:
- Very first thing to come out of the kitchen was the amaebi fried head, not the nigiri, or maki or anything else. Yes it was delicious and came with a yummy spicy crab broth, but traditionally the more heavily seasoned items usually come out later so you can fully appreciate the flavour of the more delicate items. The amaebi nigiri was lovely but again, it comes with crab paste on it which somewhat overpowers the sweetness of the meat. The spicy scallop roll had far too much sriracha on top for my taste.
- Vibe was a bit weird when we went - no music, servers lurking right behind us constantly, chefs standing around looking bored the whole time.
- Finally a lot of the dishes came out all at once rather than being paced by the kitchen - I guess some people wouldn't be bothered by this but given that a) they were not so busy when we went and b) we were sat at the counter, they could have paced the speed a little better.
This place is spectacular, potentially the best sushi I've had outside of Tokyo. It has a dark sort of rustic interior that somehow feels both intimate and lively. The sushi is fantastic, they have a great selection of fresh fish and make some very unique nigiri.
You can go with an omakase option, but they also have rolls, nigiri and small plates that you can choose from.
This place truly feels like a local hidden gem, highly recommended.
the one and only place to eat sushi. outstanding variety and quality, fish and rice (the later is often underestimated), very cosy place and amazing service. everyone i recommended kibatsu (formerly sugoi) to came back
