One upon a time there was a Wells Fargo Station in Cayucos, California. The 1800's building served as a waystation, an overnight stopover. To protect the horses, that pulled the stagecoach, from the Zephyrs that whipped off the Pacific Ocean, a deep trough was cut behind the property. Inside the man-made depression the bitting wind softened.

A century later, "Hoppy's," a modern California restaurant planted the sides of the trough with flowers which attracted thousands of butterflies. Meals were served inside the old station, and outside on the brick covered trough's floor.

But, life moves on and a very professional chef, Fernando, has reopened the restaurant and garden.

The current eatery, Lunada Garden Bistro, is delicious, period. The old station is polished, alive and fun. The garden is even more beautiful. It's reminiscent of an intimate, European, country bistro.

Service is friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. The Chef offers conventional proteins, as well as, gluten-free, and vegan dishes. Whenever possible, meals will be prepared to fulfill the customers dietary requirements. The wine and beer list is extensive and includes many local 0California selections.

I had the vegan quinoa/portobello mushroom burger with delicious, double-fried, French fries. My wife ordered the brunch special, buttermilk pancakes and eggs that came with a flute of champagne.

Carry-outs are available. Wheelchair accessible only from the garden entrance at the rear of the restaurant. The patio is animal friendly. Bathrooms are wheelchair accessible. Free street parking.

First off the staff is awesome here! Very friendly and accommodating. They were attentive and made us feel welcome. Then there’s the food we had burgers off the lunch menu and they were delicious! I had the chorizo burger and my wife had the salmon BLT. She said it was so good. Exact words. They sauce for the sweet potato fries were great.
We came back later in the evening and the place was closing up. Ivan insisted we stay in even for dessert. We finally decided to eat it there maters of takeout the sat us in the exclusive hidden garden and we had a nice dessert and coffee to end the night. This place rocks and the food is off the hook. Try it out!

Lovely garden setting on a beautiful day. They had a gentleman playing guitar and singing which was a nice addition to the ambiance. Food was good, fried calamari, oysters on the half, seafood omelet and eggs benedict were all tasty. Took a walk on the beach while waiting for our table. Service was good, too. Nothing super outstanding but nothing remotely bad, thus the 4 stars.

Everything was fabulous about this restaurant. The venue was beautiful, the wait staff were attentive and the food was devine!! And they're dog friendly. Can't get much better than that. ?
