Tried this place out today and was happy with it, lots of toppings and fresh ingredients. Guy behind the counter (I’m assuming the owner) was very friendly and thanked us for trying it out. I got the Alpha dog which if I remember right is the one of the more inexpensive options and for the money (about 8 bucks) I thought it was a great deal with a bag of chips and a drink. They guy said they’ve only been open for 2 weeks so if your experience isn’t as good as mine I’m sure they have some kinks to work out. Hope to see this business succeed!
Alpha Dogs is an interesting, new restaurant in SLO. You choose your hot dog ($6-8), add any number of free toppings, and can pay for premium toppings (+$2) and a combo meal (+$2). We all got the basic beef-and-pork Alpha Dog, which was flavorful enough and long, but skinny. There's also a hot link, veggie dog, and all-beef dog. There are TONS of free toppings, including diced red pepper and tomato slices and sriracha mayo. Don't go overboard or the hot dog will get messy, not to mention the skinny hot dog will get overpowered by the toppings. The paid toppings like cheese didn't interest me - they all cost $2. The $2 combo upgrade seems like a good deal though.
In summary, I'd recommend this place for people who love extra toppings on their hot dog or want an affordable combo meal.
If you only want a big beefy hot dog with basic condiments, you'll get more elsewhere. I know Costco's hot dog combo is a loss leader, but even if it cost $6-8, it has a softer steamed sesame bun, and a much fatter and meatier frank.
