This place is interesting. The decor is elegant and gave us the feeling of stepping back in time like 1920s or 40s Shanghai. Not that we’ve been there, just seems like what you’d see in movies/ shows. The only things missing were hostesses in Qipau, stage, band & singer. You order via an iPad.
The serving ware was different, not sure how to describe them and they also had matching silverware with porcelain handles but no chopsticks.
They have interesting menu items because it seemed to have a mix of things from different cuisines.
They served soup on the house that had a mushroom & tofu flavor, I liked it but I’m not sure this would be to everyone’s taste. We ordered garlic noodles & fried chicken- this was really good and we would order it again, plus I think our kids would like it. We also ordered Dan Dan noodles but that included some five spice or cloves and wasn’t any where close to other Dan Dan noodles I’ve had before ( like Shan dong style) it didn’t taste as good- we wouldn’t order this again.
The menu also had a large selection of teas but we were in a rush at lunch so we skipped this.
I would go back for this dish alone. Uni Chawanmushi. Single serving of heaven.
The experience of dining here was alright, but the food was mediocre. The garlic noodles were too garlicky, almost to the point of bitterness. The dandan noodles weren't bad but were a little oily
The ambiance is really nice and it really feels like I'm in China. The food was ok. I ordered the garlic noodles with fried cod, Angus beef rice bowl, and lobster tomato stew. They all had some kind of citrus or peach kind of flavor which kinda through me off. Service is excellent; they are very attentive.
The Kumino in Mountain View was always one of my favorite restaurants. Very happy that the chef has opened a new location. The duck set meal is great (although only has limited quantity and requires advanced reservation).
