Ordered some takeout food here today! The owners are nice and answered quite some of my questions (and taught me some mandarins words I was mispronouncing)! Food were all below 10 dollars, which is hard to find around here!
I expected Hainan chicken rice to be warm chicken with the chicken oil rice, but it was chilled chicken with Jasmine rice with ginger. Don't get me wrong, I love ginger! Just hoped for chicken oil rice. Otherwise, chicken was good and chopped well, and I always love my ginger with rice!
Absolutely loved the curry chicken bao! Super yummy stuff!
And note that you can order the whole menu during dinner, including the lunch boxes.
New business where chilly&munch used to be. Run by a nice elder couple and with a simple menu and limited hours for now (4-8pm Monday through Friday and Saturdays full day).
My husband got the chicken noodle soup with beef and a-chay and I got the lunch plate of hainan chicken rice, despite it not being lunch time since they open at 4pm.
I was pleasantly surprised by the hainan chicken rice, big portion for 1 person, with very tender chilled chicken, delicious sauce and lots of flavor. The bits and pieces you see in the picture are ginger and green onion. Chicken comes over a bed of brocoli, making this dish quite healthy and balanced.
I'd love to come back and try the duck over rice and potstickers!
Restaurant was way too quiet... the location is a bit odd, as it's right in front of the caltrain Station, but a quiet small local station, and quite far off the rest of the san antonio plaza. Parking is limited, but you can walk here from the plaza or park nearby in other shops nearby once theyve closed for the day.
I hope this restaurant survives the first few quiet months! It's nice to have a place to go where you dont need to wait for your table and then pay $20 pp for a simple meal.
The shnoodles were great! Lots of Szechuan pepper!
A little expensive for the vegetable add ons, but overall, good vegetarian food! Liked the vegetarian broth for the noodle soup a lot, and the green onion pie with egg was delicious!
Inexpensive, fast, and tasty. The veggies were fresh, and the lamb was very good. It seems like a good option if I'm coming home late from work this way and want something quick; I would come here again. (Below, spinach, udon, pork broth, and lamb.)
