Laid back service but the food is excellent! The only upsetting thing was that the server recommended that my (Caucasian) husband get something different than what he ordered because he assumed that he wouldn't be familiar with the spice levels but didn't do that to the rest of us (Indian) even though we said that none of us had had Ethiopian food before. (Not that it matters but he loves spicy food!!)

Not a big deal - people are who they are -but it was weird.

Other than that the food is really good, just stick to your guns and order what you want. ;)

I ordered lamb ribs and felt it was overcooked and hard. The bread was good. Chicken sambossa was very good. Spice and taste was perfect. Small place and a little wait for a table. Reasonable price. 4/5 rating overall

We have been fans of Walia for a long time. Ordinarily we would give this a 5 star review. We eat at Walia about 6 times per year. The quality of the dishes is topnotch. It is such a fun place to go with family and friends. This past Saturday, we were a party of 7 and ordered our usual vegetarian platters: our favorite. We were disappointed that the serving size of the salad and individual dishes on each platter were about half the size of the last time we went. As a result, we left hungry. We were saddened to notice this so obviously. If expenses have increased , we would understand a price increase, but not significantly less food.

Apologies, we were so hungry we forgot to take pictures.

Don't get put off by the location - yes it's in an iffy business complex. The complex looks nice, then you notice Fredrick's, a dive bar, the strip club across the street, etc. But remember you're there for the food, so go eat!

Ethiopian is similar to Indian - the spices and ingredients will be familiar. The HUGE difference, how they put the two together. Walia is one of the first Ethiopian restaurants we have tried where each of their dishes had its own unique taste. Usually flavors blend together and everything on the dish tastes the same.

We got lamb, beef, and chicken plate and ordered one of the veggie dishes on the side. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with any dish, it really depends on your personal preferences. The lamb melted in your mouth, and the grilled chick was moist! OMG - talking about it makes me want to go back.

They do have a full bar, so go eat, drink and be merry!

Excellent Ethiopian cuisine in the south bay! This place is super popular and not that big, so wait times can get long, so be prepared. But the food is worth the wait. We got the veggie sampler and the house doro wot. Everything was excellent, flavors were spot on. Probably the best Ethiopian in the south bay!
