I love Yoshinoya majorly and grew up eating this stuff in Southern California. This is unfortunately one of the only stores in the Bay and doesn't come up to standard. I ordered a regular beef bowl and found my portions of both beef and rice TINY. Moreover, there wasn't much sauce (or flavor, for that matter) to speak of, and that tender texture of a nicely-simmered beef strip was also lacking. /sadface! This place puts the chain to shame. It does fine cleanliness-wise, and still remains pretty popular with the locals, though.
Grew up eating Yoshinoya down in SoCal, food is still pretty tasty but portions do seem to be a tad bit smaller. Prefer eating here rather than other fast food joints, only problem is that it's a bit of a drive (8 miles)
First of all, I had high hopes for this place for the last 2 months. I got there and ordered the chicken teriyaki bowl.
The teriyaki sauce's flavor was wonderful, and the rice was well cooked also, nice and sticky, not too wet, not too dry.
The chicken however, was dreadful. Every piece had a massive chunk of fat on it. I don't know anyone who wants fatty chicken, ever except for maybe deep-frying, but for this dish it does NOT work. I couldn't even eat my chicken as the fat content was just disgusting, I hope it was a 1-time problem, but every piece except for 2 was fatty, like 30% fat or more. Albeit there was a lot of chicken on the plate, it was quite unappealing, and as for the cost, not too bad, except for the chicken to me was mostly inedible. I did arrive later in the evening, maybe its regularly fatty or maybe I got the last of the chicken basically. I am not sure, I will check this place out 1 more time, and if the chicken is still fatty, I will be severely disappointed, and never return. Wasted my lunch hour getting there and back to finally not eat much, very disappointing.
Dam. This joint is huge and always have been in socal. Buy here in norcal i dont think there marketed enough and there locations hear are weak spots of town....but the food is always great! Love it
Quality food including low fat beef expertly seasoned, steamed rice and vegetables. When tired of high fat-cholesterol-sodium, treat yourself to Yoshinoya. The price and service will pleasantly surprise you, I promise.
