This restaurant used to be the Royal Taj and now it is Maharaja.
I started going to the Royal Taj in 2010, and I don't notice any difference in the restaurant since it changed names but I am not sure if there is a change or not to be honest, I haven't really looked for change. The food has always been on point and has always been very consistent. Their lunch buffet is great and always seems fresh. They have a few delicious beers too... sometimes the service is patchy, if you go during the lunch buffet hours they might not give you guidance or come take your drink order. This is the only reason for not having 5 stars, along with their weird hours... but the staff is always friendly... I think they just need some training.
I would always call before coming here because they have strange hours, they close during the day after lunch and then reopen again for dinner.
I will continue to come to this local gem often!
Much better than hindquarters across the street!
A good eatery for Indians visiting Santa Cruz and nearby. But amenities were awfully bad and poor. Indian food OK. A middle class restaurant without much pomp and show.
This place used to be the Royal Taj which was my favorite Indian food of all the places I've tried it; San Jose, San Francisco, Amsterdam. So when they changed to Maharaja I was a little skeptical, but it's just as good if not better. It's reasonably priced, and the lunch buffet is a great deal with awesome variety. Service is on point and friendly too.
