Simply incredible.
Coming from North Carolina and my wife being from Austin, I don’t need to say that the standards for Barbecue in our family are EXTREMELY high. In the five years we’ve been on the west coast, I’ve never found anywhere that felt worthwhile. Enter Odell. They may only have brisket available to the public one day a week, but it’s worth clawing your way out of work at 11AM on a Friday just to make sure you absolutely get a piece.
The meat here is easily on par with the very best you’d find in Texas, and the folks working here are just as friendly as the food is good. I’ll definitely be stopping in anytime I pass through Redding.
Odell’s catered a wedding I went to and it was aMAZing! Chicken cooked to perfection and such tasty seasonings. And the side dishes were a spinach salad and a broccoli salad. Fresh, tasty, the perfect blend of sweet and savory. And the rolls looked ordinary but they actually had a touch of honey in them. Yum! The servers also were friendly and professional. I can’t wait to eat their food again!!
I’ve been enjoying Odell Craft BBQ for a few years. They’ve carted special events and I’ve ordered from their location. It’s real good all the time. Jason knows his stuff and is passionate about his craft. You really can’t go wrong getting anything from the menu!
Visiting Redding downtown and discovered this place by accident (the smell of bbq!) - saw the good reviews and decided to give it a try. Brisket was beautifully smoked and juicy and flavorful, ribs also solid. We also got broccoli salad and slaw, the 🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦 was amazing... even made someone who doesn't normally eat them asked for more!! Staff were so friendly and welcoming. Would love to visit again if we were in town! (Note: brisket only available on Friday around the time we visited March 2022)
A gem of a stop, well worth the space in your stomach when you're hungry in Redding.
Staff are extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their meat. Looks like they've taken some inspiration from Horn Barbeque.
It's not quite as heavy or smokey as ol' fashioned Texas BBQ, but it's got heaps of flavor. Might even describe it as delicate, but don't confuse that with healthy. They use some good cuts of well-marbled fatty brisket here and I could definitely feel that BBQ nap sneaking into me an hour later. Would highly recommend getting it as a sandwich so you can get that acidity from their slaw and pickles.
The sides are also no joke. I'm glad they sell the honey butter rolls in two, because I can't imagine having just one and being content. Lemon squares here are also a treat when you want something sweet and acidic to cleanse the palate after a good plate of meat.
There's only street parking and staff mentioned that the city rarely ever checks, but best you keep an eye out on the outside table for if and when a meter maid pops up.
