The most, and only, authentic Taiwanese food in Boulder. I would give her 10 stars if I could.
I am a bit hesitant in providing a review for this place. If people actually realized how good the food is in terms of quality of ingredients, authenticity and the knowledge the owner/chef has on the cuisine, I would not be able to get a table the next time I go.
As a Taiwanese American, I was surprised to find this gem in Boulder, let alone on the Hill. She makes the foods I grew up having. This place takes me back to my childhood. She holds a high integrity in the ingredients she uses. If it's not good and fresh, she simply does not have that menu item that day.
Sure she also has some menu items that are less authentic. Cut her some slack, she's on the Hill. She also has traditional dishes not on the menu. Try getting that at PF Changs, forget about it.
I started coming here weekly about two months ago. Everything I have had is excellent and comforting. To me Taiwanese food is comfort food. I typically get the fried pork dumplings (the best I have had in the U.S. and better than what my mother and I have had made), vegetable egg rolls and beef noodle soup.
Brand new Taiwanese restaurant definitely worth checking out. The pork belly over rice was da bomb. So tender and delicious!
Lots of authentic dishes to choose from. Can’t wait to go back and try more
Formosa is a great addition to Boulder / The Hill's food scene. Formosa provides traditional Chinese and Taiwanese cuisine in an area that is thoroughly lacking it. The owner / chef was kind and attentive while I was there, and even more impressive was that she was running the entire place by herself. Supporting this new restaurant was a bonus on top of the great food provided here.
The clear standout in my eyes at Formosa was the Dim Sum. The Siu Mai, Egg Tarts, and Chinese Pancake were absolutely delicious! Since moving away from Boston I haven't been able to find good Dim Sum until I went to Formosa. I plan to make Formosa my staple when in the mood for Dim Sum from here on out.
The Beef Noodle Soup and Pork Belly over rice were good dishes, but not as memorable as the Dim Sum. These dishes were flavorful and well crafted, but I think I would have preferred more Dim Sum / Taiwanese Street Food in their place.
The photos of the Taiwanese cakes look pretty incredible, but as the menu states you need to give at least 48hr advance request for them. I'm looking forward to exploring more of what this menu / restaurant has to offer.
Delicious home cooked foods. You can really tell Nancy cares about her food and how it’s made. The buns were delectable and the cake was fluffy and not too sweet. Can’t recommend this place enough!
Amazingly authentic Taiwanese food. Run by Nancy, a lovely Taiwanese lady who brews the broth for the beef noodle soup for seven hours. Very reminiscent of Taiwan and tastes just like the very clean, healthy, home cooking, that I've missed. Formosa takes me back to the homelands with her breakfast menu, as Taiwan is known for breakfast. Honestly the best Taiwanese food I've had in a restaurant setting in a long time, even compared to NYC and Boston.
