Carmine's on Penn

Food was amazing. The only reason I am shorting this to 4 stars is because the service left us a little cold. Our server started out being friendly, informative and helpful but then acted as if we were a nuisance after he took our order. The food was delivered by two women who seemed the same way. The one guy who boxed our food and kept our drinks full was awesome and I wish I would have gotten his name. Also a man who appeared to be a manager walked around the dining room the whole time we were there and didn’t check in on us one time.

Food was delicious; the family style portions made choosing a dish difficult. Atmosphere wasnt terrible, just a little crowded and noisy. Unfortunately the service was the worst part, we felt rushed and had to get her attention to get anything.

Old school, family style, great Italian food. Come hungry, leave stuffed. Four stars.

I thought the meals I had at Carmines years ago were great and coming back years later... the food is even better. My friends and I were blown away by the crab and mascarpone Ravioli and we asked to meet the chef. Chef Ben seems to respect the classic Carmines dishes as well as adding an artistic flair to specials and the menu.
Our server Nate was extremely knowledgeable and paired dishes that went really well together. One could tell he was proud of the food he serves and amazing at making wine and drink recommendations. We will be coming back often and telling friends to come back to Carmines to see Nate and Ben!
