Great atmosphere! Excellent food and service. Cocktails and beer selection on point. Order a ranch water, delicious!
Very delicious, authentic mexican! Margaritas taste fresh (not from mix) and the guacamole is made-to-order. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating (I requested cucumbers instead of chips with our guac and she was happy to make that happen). Will be back.
Over 5 different visits over the last 20 months, I am lowering my rating from 4 to 3 stars. Each successive visit seems to be worse. The service is always very good. No problems with that. My issues are with the food and drink.
Margaritas are consistently bland. Weak in both flavor and alcohol content. If I was getting a 5 dollar happy hour marg that tasted like these I would not complain as much but these are 7 to 14 dollars.
The drinks in my opinion are the biggest failure of the restaurant.
The food went from great in our first visit in early 2018 to average in each of the other visits.
To be honest I don't think El Jefe will be on our list anymore. Not unless major improvements are made to the drink making and the menu and food quality is improved.
$5 margaritas in dollar tacos awesome! However they were kind of understaffed and they messed up a margarita and brought us another margarita then charged us for the margarita that they made a mistake on. and our server was very very sweet and she was a wonderful person except she was so overwhelmed that we had to keep like flagging her down. And at one time towards the end my friend must have waved at her for five times before we could even get our bill so we could go. We're definitely going back the tacos were very good and the margarita the right one right was amazing. I just think they were a little overwhelmed on taco Tuesdays.
I love El Jefe! We used to live in the neighborhood, so would go there frequently for brunch on the weekends. Now that we moved one neighborhood away, we still visit frequently, but usually more for dinner. I love their fish tacos, and their coin style margaritas. The food tastes fresh, the service has always been stellar, and I love that they have an "open" kitchen. While I have struggled to find legitimate Tex-Mex food since moving here from Austin (why does no one make their own tortillas?), El Jefe comes very close.
