Leon Gessi New York Pizza

I'm very VERY picky about pizza. My friend absolutely loves Leon Gessi pizza, but I didn't really care for it. First, ordering a slice took forever (at lunch on time.) I thought, cool this is gonna be good fresh pizza because it's taking forever... NY pizza is by nature a thin bendable flexible foldable crust. I understand it is really hard to get it perfect. Anyone who's thrown pies in an established pizzeria knows getting the crust done right is what matters most. When I got home, I pan-fried the flimsy, doughy unmanageable crusts. Next important... Cheese and sauce. Neither were stand out good... Maybe if the crust had done it's job, then the rest of the pizza would've been more memorable.
Leon Gessi is a cool old Colorado Springs establishment. It's filled with memories and history. But like so many other places, Leon Gessi Pizza seems to rely on that nostalgia more so than maintaining the food quality that made the Colorado Springs landmark it has become.

In my view, this is probably the best one or two pizza spots in town. A really good NY pizza - especially considering we are about 2,000 miles from NYC. It's a comfortable place, and they've been around since the mid 70s. The people were great and now they do have some seating. We had a pizza and a couple of beers and I could not have been happier. I love finding spots like this. As an east coast transplant (for grandbabies), I am delighted to find this place. I can live here now 😀.

Update 4/4/22- the pizza is still fabulous.

This place is my family's favorite. The pizza is so tasty according to the spouse and our teenage always eating children. As a family of 5 we can walk out spending under 40. Also their gluten free pizza is amazing. Best one I've found so far!

Pretty solid pizza. Great lunch special. Decent sized slice of pizza of your choice, house salad, and a drink for $8. Can't really beat that. The atmosphere inside is great also. Old school pizza joint feel to it.
