School House Kitchen and Libations

I visited last Monday and have been reticent about leaving a review of my experience. The atmosphere and concept of this place isn't as great as the website leads you to believe, but I don't drink so I may not be the best person to judge that aspect.

What I do know is food - and the food was less than stellar. We ordered 3 dishes among us:

The Portobella Taco Bowl was unexpectedly bland. The rice base was mushy outside and crunchy/uncooked inside (how does that even happen?). I tried putting some hot sauce on it, but it was just bad.

One of my companions got Gnocchi and Veg and it too was really bland, but also very dry - there was no sauce to speak of. She asked for a side of pesto, thinking it would jazz it up. Sadly it did not. She took it home hoping to doctor it up enough to make it palatable.

Another companion got a Shrimp Po' Boy which she thought was pretty good other than the sauce being 'a little much'.

Overall, we thought the wait staff was the best part of the place - they alone warrant the 3 stars I've given. The vibe was OK, the parking was a nightmare, and the food overall left MUCH to be desired.

This place is one of the most enjoyable spots I've gone to that really rocks a great theme. The school concept is amazing for the whole family. I was blown away by all of the awesome touches of creativity throughout the entire restaurant. Our service was very good. The food was enjoyable, as it was reasonably priced. However enjoyable the meals, they did not blow me away to make me want to crave to come back. The food was good, not great. Almost like the level of meals you would have enjoyed at an actual school:) Still worth a visit and the experience for sure.

Really great service! Friendly and attentive. I wanted the food to be a 5 star, but it lacked somewhat. Even though the pics look great, there was some room for improvement. Not enough chicken with the waffles, the kids chicken meal was not great and the Monte needed more inside and less batter. We will give it another shot before writing it off completely. Oh, the bacon wrapped figs were delicious. ????

Great food! Went for brunch/lunch and everything was excellent. Cocktails came in fun glass such as a breaker. The restaurant is decorated in everything school- old bus seats and desk chairs. Fun theme. They also have Whiskey flights!
