Max Downtown

Celebrating an anniversary and we decided to try Max Downtown. What an amazing dining experience! Restaurant was super-busy due to a UConn game at the XL Center but nonetheless, service was impeccable. Friendly, professional, helpful and present/attentive (but not TOO present/attentive). The timing of the meal was well paced and suggestions offered were spot on. Food was cooked perfectly and served hot. Thanks for a wonderful experience Patrick & Melinda and the others who pitched in along the way ~ we cannot wait to come back!

We came to this restaurant for a meeting. This place was recommended to us by a friend. Well, it was very nice. The crew welcomed us with a smile and we had an excellent feeling. The meal was delicious. We loved this spot very much and we will visit this place again. Highly recommended.

One of the most reliable "great dining experiences" in greater Hartford and still, I think, the flagship restaurant of the Max family of restaurants. Always superb beef and fish entrees that make me think of this as a chop house style reminiscent of the great Manhattan restaurants of the 50's and 60's but with a sophisticated contemporary design. The bar is a great choice for a convenient lunch if you don't have the time to indulge.

It was a great visit at this place. Staff is very attentive and knowledgeable. Atmosphere is open and inviting. Great menu selection and good food. It was worth a visit.

Some parts are amazing and other parts need improvement. The decor of this place is amazing. Love the design of the bar and dining areas. The mixed drinks are great too. Probably the best old fashioned I've ever had was made here. Some of the food was great too; lobster pierogi and Mac & cheese were great. That said, the prime rib was sub par. I've had better elsewhere and have even made better at home. It was under cooked, very fatty, and was served with a horrible knife. I might as well have been given a butter knife to cut this stringy cut of meat. Overall, the whole experience was simply inconsistent.
