The Mill House Kitchen & Bar opened yesterday, July 8th, 2022 in Torrington on 367 Winsted Rd. Friends of the owner, we had to drop in to try the menu and wish him well since we missed his pre-opening event the night before. We saw the restaurant before it opened and got a tour of all the rooms and décor. It looked great. Big and spacious with a rustic country interior. Now with white tablecloths on the tables it's ready to go.
The menu consists of steaks, fish, pasta, burgers and pizza. We ordered two appetizers: fried calamari and the garlic parmesan chicken wings. The calamari was fresh and crispy. Not at all greasy. The wings were tender and moist but could have have baked a little longer to our liking.
A thick white house bread comes with dinner. It reminds me of the bread I make in my bread machine.
There is no special cocktail menu yet but our drinks from the bar were well made. Our two entrées were grilled salmon and asparagus and a New York Prime Strip Steak medium-well with broccoli. They were out of the roasted potatoes but the garlic mashed that came with both our meals was fine. French fries are also available. The salmon was perfectly grilled and a good portion size. The steak was cooked to order and well seasoned.
We wanted to try their pizza as well, so we ordered one to take home. We shared a slice before closing the box to give feedback to our friend. Tasty. There is no pizza on the menu yet with meat other than their buffalo chicken choice, so we had ours custom made with hamburger, sausage, pepperoni and bacon.
There is something on this menu for everyone including a section for kids. We saw a lot of burgers going by our booth, too. Service is attentive and friendly. They'll be adding specials of the day soon. A large private event room is also available behind two large antique wood doors.
Hours: Sunday - Thursday 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM; Friday and Saturday 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM. For an opening night it was pretty busy. Good luck, Freddie! We'll be back soon to try some of the specials.
