La Tolteca - Greenville, DE

The food was excellent but they were understaffed and the poor waiter had too many tables. This caused him to run from table to table. The 3 stars are no reflection on him, he was doing his best and apologized over and over for the slower service.

We were there during lunch time and ordered from the lunch menu. The Huevos con Chorizo would more appropriately be called Chorizo con Huevos, as it was difficult to tell at a glance that this dish even contained scrambled eggs. I was expecting a dish that looked like scrambled eggs with some chorizo mixed in, and which I'd ordered because scrambled eggs seemed like a lighter lunch option, but it was the opposite. A big pile of ground chorizo, with a bit of egg. It was ok eaten taco style with tortillas, but a mound of sausage was not what I had wanted.

Additionally, we were brought the complimentary chips and salsa at the time of arrival, which we munched on waiting for our drinks and for our order to be taken and the food to arrive. We ordered an appetizer of spinach queso, which was brought to us without any chips. Since our salsa chips were mostly depleted by then, I asked for chips to have with the queso. Later, on the bill I noticed I had been charged $1 for the queso chips, which does not seem right. Queso by nature should be accompanied by chips, otherwise how is it to be eaten? The menu did not say it cost $1 extra to get chips to dip into the queso.

I paid it without questioning it, because I would not have been able to do so without getting a different staff member than our waitress, who genuinely did not seem to speak more than a few words of English and who we communicated with by pointing. She was lovely and friendly, but would have been unable to understand and respond to questions about food ingredients, substitutions, issues with charges, etc. Another employee would have had to be consulted, which seemed like overkill and petty for a $1 discrepancy.

I live near enough to this restaurant that I will definitely be back, but these issues should have the attention of management.

This restaurant is new! They have a seafood molcajete. 😋 It is so good - shrimp, scallops, fish. I ordered without fish (tilapia). I will be back

First off, I was told there will be a live band there every Wednesday. Second offI had a wonderful meal here! I dined with a couple of my friends, and at the end of the night, it turned out so cheap that I just paid for the 3 of us. Very good menu. It seems a bit more refined than most of their restaurants, but it still has all of my favorites. Definitely check it out!

The food is authentic, the people and atmosphere is welcoming, family Owend and operated.
