H-Yan Hotpot&BBQ

Really liked the spicy broth. Servers very helpful, checked to see if you knew what to do, help if you don't. Asked if we wanted suggestions mixing the sauce. Used a bowl for broth at the end, is even more flavorful after cooking all the food in it, of course. Husband and son especially loved it, my husband always over orders. I really like the vegetables, tofu, and noodles, they love the meats and noodles, and veggies, too. It is fun to try, and allows for a lot of conversation. We have been here half a dozen times, have had this type of meal multiple times in NYC and Taiwan. Newark is lucky to have one, not common in smaller urban areas. Try it! Also note, restaurant and bathrooms were very clean, a good sign.

A very interesting and unique way to enjoy food in a group setting. The ingredients are raw, so the food naturally takes on the flavor of the broth you choose. So taste can be widely subjective. Customer service is satisfactory. Prices can climb quickly for a decent size portion of food.

This was my first hot pot experience....and it was delicious and fun!!
We were greeted at once and the hostess even took a few minutes to explain how they do their hot pots... It was very helpful. Our server was very nice and knowledgeable.
My son and I shared a pot with 2 broths: extra spicy and the 'milky' bone broth. Both of these packed a bunch of flavor!!
The server warned us their spicy broth was very spicy... But being familiar with Korean and Thai spicy, we went for it.....it could have been a bit spicier, lol, but spicy enough.
You then pick your protein, vegetables and noodles.
The server showed us which items to put in first and then how to eat it.
There are 2 ladles - slotted and regular. You have a rectangle plate to eat off of and a pair of chopsticks.
We did ask for bowls near the end because we wanted to slurp down the broth.
And my reviews always mention cleanliness... The restaurant and bathrooms were clean. The restaurant is open with a welcoming atmosphere.
I recommend this spot to everyone!!
We think the University students are lucky to have this spot right here in Main St.
If you guys are in Newark, then try it out!!

The food was good. This was my first hot pot experience. The server was helpful in making sauces for our group, everyone was very happy with their custom sauce. It was a little difficult to figure out what to do or how much for to order at the beginning, but once we figured it out we had a lot of fun!

Great food, great ambiance, fantastic service! Our server was SO careful with my dietary restrictions (no sugar) and had his eye out for potential sources. Definitely want to go back next time I'm back in town. Bill was $40 for three of us, with one kind of meat and several veg/starch options.
