This is a beautiful speakeasy that is not on the affordable side in Georgetown. Be prepared to spend $100+ . Great cocktails and sexy ambiance . One star off for slow service , could use more front of house staff .
The cocktails were great, really tasty and well made. The bartender was nice and was able to create something unique for another guest at our table who wanted to try something new.
The speakeasy thing is cool, you need a code to get in, but they give you the code on a piece of paper when you walk into the lobby and ask where the bar is. Maybe make it a little more "secret." The code is the address, plus the year George Washington died, something like that.
The food took a long time to come out, which was strange. They could have dimmed the lights a little as well, create some ambiance. For a speakeasy style place, it was bright. Also, the kitchen closed at 10pm. Granted it was Sunday, but the opportunity to order dessert was missed because we weren't informed that there wouldn't be that option after 10:00. That was strange. I'd totally go back again, but maybe just for drinks and appetizers.
The Alex is a restaurant/speakeasy in the basement of the boutique hotel, The Graham, in Georgetown. If you take the stairs down, you'll see the walls decorated in chalk art. Once down, you'll be seated at one of the 20+ tables where you can order a decent cocktail.
If you're a guest at the hotel, you can enjoy breakfast at The Alex early in the morning. My wife and I are Hilton Honor members and were given tickets to redeem free breakfast here. They serve a decent breakfast from a European continental breakfast to waffles to an omelette. My waffle was basic, but I did enjoy my avocado toast with a poached egg on top.
The coffee is Illy and it's nothing to write home about.
Amazing date night place. We had an awesome jazz band. The singer was humorous. Their truffle fries and scallops are good
