La Chaumiere is in need of some refreshing. The Restuarant Week meal was a bit half-hearted. I don't think we'd be back on our own volition.
Friedrich and I were there for New Years Eve. We have celebrated the holiday at La Chaumiere for many years. The venison and grouper was fabulous. We also enjoyed the chestnut soup and lobster bisque. This restaurant provides a traditional old European ambiance. The service was excellent.
I almost never give 5 stars. But this place offers consistently amazing food, perfect service and a cozy atmosphere. Considering the quality of the food, it is also surprisingly unpretentious.
Old school French restaurant that has been here forever. Lots of classic recipes, but some new and more innovative ones as well, but done in classic French style. Service is professional and not intrusive: much more like Europe than the U.S. style, which I like. Never manage to get to dessert, as I'm too stuffed at the end of the meal, but to me the food was very, very good. This is a fine experience and I highly recommend it.
If you are looking for an authentic French restaurant in DC, try La Chaumiere. Everything we tried was excellent. Paul and Henri were most accommodating. We brought a group of twenty, and used the upstairs room. Wonderful wines, deep savory sauces, delightful cuisine. The chocolate souffle dessert was magnificent. Dine here! You will be happy you did@
