Our favorite bagel place. We are regulars there and we love their everything bagel with vegetable cream cheese. The bagel itself is really great not so crunch or doughy. The cookie Roberts is my daughter's favourite cookie. The staff is always nice and attentive.

The place is very hyped up. They would benefit from more square footage greatly. It is always packed and there are rarely spots to sit down at. The food is alright but would be much better if they served more food warm. The hot chocolate is a little watery. The prices are good for the quality and quantity of food that you get.

This can't be the best bread in DC. I got two loaves based on the reviews, multi grain and a cranberry walnut. Nothing special about the bread to me (to be fair, I had just been on vacation in a country known for their bread a few days before stopping here). I feel like the small bakery just East of 16th & U on U has better quality. The staff was super friendly though!

Are you looking for a crusty, hearty loaf of whole wheat bread? This place has it, plus tasty pastries and decent sandwiches.

Why 3 stars then? It’s just really expensive. $8 for a loaf. $3-5 for a pastry. Maybe the high prices are paying for decent wages for staff? That would be worthwhile I think. But it’s 2 to 4 times more expensive than other bread options, making it hard to make it my weekly bakery.

EDIT: Updated to 4 stars because $8 per loaf is still several affordable meals for a price conscious bread appreciator. Go for it!

If you like to experience real definition of "cafe", you should go to Bread Furst. The crowd for Sunday breakfast is fun too. Various options of breakfast plates and/or pastries with great espresso, latte, other hot drinks. The breads are made in front of you. The servers are friendly and beyond quick to serve hundreds of people lined up in front of them.
