Finally, a sushi and poke place near our neighborhood. However, I was a bit disappointed. Though I think there is room for improvement as some things were weird/not good, while other parts were great. Hence the perfectly average 3 of 5 stars. First, no wasabi! Shame. Second, the spicy version of rolls/bowls (e.g. the spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and the spicy salmon poke bowl) all use what tastes like gochugaru to make it spicy. This is a strange pairing of flavors. This Korean red chili (gochugaru) is what is used in kimchi (fermented cabbage)...thus Block Sushi's spicy fish offerings just tasted like kimchi and lost all of the "freshness" that sushi should have. We could not finish the spicy rolls or the poke bowl; not appetizing at all. Though, I’m not surprised they used gochugaru as Block Sushi's "sister" restaurant is Bangbop, a Korean cuisine joint. Third, besides the odd flavor of the spicy salmon poke bowl it was just all smashed in a shallow brown paper “bowl.” All the rice was stuck to the bottom which made it nearly impossible to eat with chopsticks; frustrating. Rice sticks like crazy to paper/cardboard.
The good, yes there is some. The “Block” roll and the “Zone” rolls were excellent, top tier rolls. The presentation was great. Love the big blue box to with separate spaces for each roll we ordered. The included disposable soy sauce dishes were welcomed. Good amount of ginger...just really missing the wasabi!
Not sure if we’ll try it again. Based on the flavor profiles of this sushi I’m guessing Bangbop is probably pretty good and I'll need to try it. They’re at a neat location, the staff was very friendly. Wish you all the best.

So good! I want this family business to stay in the neighborhood! Love it. I would have posted a picture but I ate it too fast because was delicious! Fantastic presentation too!

It was nice to have an entirely vegan sushi experience. I liked everything. It had an awesome presentation. The brown-faux fish was kind of weird, but big picture, it was good. Would love a big box that I could customize and vegan tempura.

I was so excited to have a sushi/poke place open up near me! I’m tired of ordering for delivery only for the cost to be a little insane and the rolls be just ok. Block Sushi has an awesome array of choices at much more reasonable prices in amazing packaging. I got a bento box for dinner on a train ride, but I’m looking forward to trying other items. Pickup was prompt and super easy - there’s a rack just beyond the front door where your orders are clearly labeled with your name. They also run Bang Bop, which is another great takeout place.
