Very cool new food hall on Cap Hill. Shelter is a cool indoor/outdoor beer garden with doors that open up to an outdoor seating area. Too many beers to count on tap. They also serve other mixed drinks and wine.
I also tried out the tacos at HI FI Taco and a burger at Red Apron. The food at both places was delicious. Cameo Cafe was also very nice and a great place to get your caffeine fix.
Best part about the Roost was the staff was genuinely friendly and helpful acquainting new customers with the new place. The Roost will definitely be part of my regular routine on the Hill.
The Roost is Hill East's "culinary clubhouse" set up in the bottom floor of a new apartment building. It's across the street from the Potomac Avenue Metro and near plenty of street parking.
It's set up like a food hall and has over a dozen vendors all slated to open by Thanksgiving 2020. There's a coffee shop (Cameo), a local good shop (Shop Made in DC), a taco place (Hi/Fi), burgers (Red Apron) and a beer house (Shelter). The coffee shop puts tables and chairs outside and Shelter has a large outdoor patio with seating.
The Roost is already a local hangout spot thanks to Shelter. It's a well-curated beer house that changes out their drafts daily. They serve craft beers and even have sour ales and ciders on the menu!
Great new spot on the hill, beer is excellent at shelter and the tacos are tasty.
