I went in with a friend and told them it our first time. The cashier gave us a complete run down of the menu. Emphasis on the fact that they don't have a freezer, that's how fresh their products are. The Mac and cheese was absolutely to die for made with 5 different cheeses. They are extremely supportive of our armed forces and have a cup that donates proceeds to a charitable foundation. Not too pricey and excellent portion sizes. If you go, GO HUNGRY!
The food here reflects that they are on a mission. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic. When you walk in you see all the military memorabilia and items from first responders. Walking up to the counter the menu is easily seen on the overhead menue board. They have beef, pork, Turkey, and chicken bbq meat choices and now surprisingly they have pastrami. The sides are really good Especially the mac and cheese and green beans. They have the best collard greens I've ever gotten at a restaurant. The carrot cake for desert is really great. They have a great selection of sauces. There are at least 10 different choices and each one is great. To me the three best are the Memphis belle, the Smokey mountain, and the Carolina vinegar. Do yourself a flavor and try some great food in a nice atmosphere.
I liked the atmosphere. It's a fun, homey comfortable place. I got the turkey & it was good. My dad got the pork & it was amaaaaazing. Their sweet tea was stellar, too. Up there with any other to notch tea restaurant. The friendly service was even better than the food & drinks.
Good BBQ. Didn't care for the sides. The staff are more interested in getting people through the line than quality of service. While they are nice and pleasant, they don't have much patience with customers. I would go back with a group but I won't go out of my way to revisit by myself.
My favorite BBQ in Jacksonville. Hands down. And I've been everywhere. I love BBQ. Best service. Great prices. Great BBQ. And they love all service members, Police, Fire, EMS, etc. Go see for yourself. You will love it.
