I've been to the Forge twice now. The decor is great. The food is good--not consistently great. Small but unique, varied menu. The service is okay-- it seems like they are still in training a bit, working out the kinks.
The first time, I sat at the bar with a friend and the bartender was completely inattentive. We had to continuously garner for her attention to order food, get our check etc. There were two off-duty employees sitting at the end of the bar (bad business practice in my opinion), which seemed to be distracting her times.
I had the fish and chips, which was good. I really like the fries at this place.
The second time I visited, they asked me twice how I wanted to my hamburger. Though, I told them medium well, the burger was pink mostly inside. I later told the server and she said she would inform the kitchen. I wasn't expecting a free meal, but maybe the manager at that point should come and talk to us to address/acknowledge it.
I really want to like this place. We need places like the Forge in the Riverview/ Brandon area. Live music on weekends, pub food, a place to socialize, sit outside. I'm rooting for them.
We've been here three times, twice in seated area and once in bar area. Food and staff was good each time, portions and taste very nice. One GIANT gripe is that the seats in the restaurant area are extremely uncomfortable, and it takes my review down quite a bit. I asked the waitress if people complain about them, and she said they did. Forge, once you can afford it, please buy new chairs!! Thanks.
I enjoyed eating at the forge, the food was well prepared and presented. The onion rings dip is amazing, the mashed potatoes were a bit under seasoned but once combined with the gravy they were excellent. Our server was a young lady named Ell and she was amazing, our drinks were refilled regularly and our food was brought to the table quickly. There was live music and it was done well. Generally I feel live music ends up too loud in most venues but the forge has it arranged in a way where the speakers are not pointing to the seated section, which was nice as I was able to have a conversation with whoever was sitting next to me. The only thing that keeps the forge from a 5 out of 5 would be their draft beer choices. I would have liked to have seen a tap from a smaller local brewery, like Tampa brew works. Other than cigar City Jai Alia their beer selection wasn't anything to write home about. In closing I would recommend the forge, it has a nice welcoming atmosphere and is a good place to grab a drink and a bite.
The last thing I was expecting was for their food to be good. IT WAS STELLAR. Everything, the fries, the shrimp, the burgers. We came in for drinks and left with full, happy bellies. The live entertainment music was phenomenal. I think I found my new favorite bar.
