GenX Tavern

The atmosphere was awesome. It's got a very nostalgic vibe with classic arcade & video games, a lounge to chill out, good prices and a good menu. The only thing that I wasn't so satisfied with was the bartender on shift. The place had maybe 3 tables occupied and only 5 people at the bar but for some reason I had to wait around while she was nowhere to be seen for up to 10 minutes. Whether that's her fault or not, I don't know. I'd definitely go back and recommend it to anybody that is just looking for a place to hangout and grab a drink in downtown Tampa.

Food was good, and we really enjoyed the deep fried ravioli. 3 stars for the service though. They had no greeter and we sat at a table for 10 minutes before anybody realized we needed help, even though they told us to just sit anywhere. Food took forever to come out, and the drinks took even longer. Cool throwback decor but not worth the hassle. This was our first time and we probably will not return.

This was such a cool and fun place! Kayla was an AWESOME waitress and always made sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed. We had the best experience and can’t wait to go again! We will definitely be requesting her again next time and recommending this place to all our friends. Amazing drinks, food and service!

The food is really good and they have the best drink specials. The customer service is great. Bryan always makes our experience enjoyable with delicious drinks and conversation. He knows how to make drinks really well and he even suggested some drinks that I didn't know about but tasted amazing. I highly recommend!

The place seems to get overwhelmed and the service gets a little shaky- however, I do believe the servers (not so much the bartenders) genuinely try their best. I got kind of a standoffish attitude from the bartenders with the exception of one female bartender that worked when we were there. I won't place too much weight on that since servers and bartenders tend to bounce around frequently.

The layout is functional for the most part. There's an oddly small waiting area for people who are waiting to be seated. Fortunately, there's a lobby in front of the entrance in case this area gets backed up. For those who grew up in the 80s and 90s, there's plenty to enjoy about the motif and gaming activities. Everything from super Nintendo (one of the controllers had 1 or 2 non functional buttons) ski-ball to pinball however- it is not a Dave and Busters and gaming options are limited.

My only real complaint were the small and bunched-together square-tables area. This area seemed cramped and getting into your chair was somewhat of a hassle. Additionally, the music was too loud all night. Like, I could only hear people that were sitting next to me, and even that was a struggle. Pricing is reasonable and the food was good. Definitely recommend for group outings.
