Stewby's Seafood Shanty

We jumped off the interstate and found this place for lunch. Got a bunch of stuff to go. It was ready quickly. Highlights were the colossal shrimp and the gumbo, which hands down beat the gumbo from the Cajun place in Louisiana. The shrimp were actually colossal. Also had fish of the day blackened. Banana pudding was also very good. We highly recommend and wish we lived closer.

For a fresh seafood restaurant not on the coast, about 30 minutes away, It is very good! Fried oysters were very big and fried perfectly! Shrimp was definitely fresh Gulf Shrimp and the colossal shrimp were huge and fried a beautiful golden brown! Cheese grits were some of the best I’ve had. As good as any restaurant on the coast, and the shrimp and oysters were bigger than allot of restaurants I’ve ate at on the coast! Will definitely stop again!

Everything is delicious!! The catfish is super thick and perfectly breaded. The fries are our favorite, seasoned perfectly and never soft or greasy. The grits are buttery, salty and cheesy-they’re a yummy dream!!!! The grilled fish of the day is our absolute favorite and my 2 yr old loves the kids chicken plate and super savory hush puppies. Reasonable prices for FRESH seafood. They also give a 10% military discount when you show your ID.

Popcorn shrimp was fresh and delicious. Staff was very courteous and friendly. You order at counter so no table service. They are really quick. They say they are not a fast food joint but I've waited longer at some fast food places. Definitely worth a stop for a quick bite.

The gumbo was AMAZIINNNNGGGG!!!I wish I could have stopped to get some before leaving town. The fried fish was ok I should have gotten it grilled...the fried oysters were very tasty as well....but the gumbo was delicious 😋
