My gal promised me ice cream, and she wanted to take me to something original, but with great ice cream too. We settled on Proper.

We drove up to Delray and walked over. It wasn't hard to spot, it had a simple oval sign out front that almost beckoned to the treats inside.
We came on a blazing hot day, but it was a little late so there was almost no line inside.
I looked for the options and realized the flavored cones were on display but the ice cream wasn't. I'm not sure the reasoning behind it, but I think they missed out that ice cream people are visual besides just taste. Picking from the colors and textures from the freezer is part of the fun. We were given a placarded list to choose from. Some flavors just had a vague name like "Elvis". I asked to try a couple so I would have a clue what they were about.
I settled on a couple flavors for my 2 scoop; a butter & cream and a chocolate brownie concoction. Once prepared, they added on top a poured hot brownie ganache. After she got her carrot cake ice cream we grab a bench on the main street and people watched. It was all pretty perfect. Looking back the only flaws were the price point seemed extra high and not seeing the ice cream displayed to choose from was a little odd. But Proper Ice cream is dang good ice cream.

Seriously great ice cream. Texture is so creamy & pints don't get tough if you take it home & enjoy over the week, if you can resist devouring it all in a couple of days! Really cool flavor combinations, fun cone options, highly recommend.

Its a place to experience. Staff is very friendly and love the decor. We tried and ask multiple question they were very helpful. Its a different take on ice cream flavor. Kids will love.

We tried their ice cream and 1 scoop in a cup was $6.50 + tax, in a cone it was $7.25. There was very loud music playing so it was difficult to hear the server's questions. There were no small tables or regular chairs...just 3 high metal chairs and a metal bar on the wall. The ice cream was ok but the ice cream at the Working Cow in Boynton was just as good, maybe better with a better price and ambience. It must be the high rent district of downtown Delray to command their price structure.

I first had Proper Ice Cream at Buccan (on Palm Beach Island) and 1000 North (Jupiter) via their dessert menus; I was thrilled to discover that the ice cream these two upscale restaurants were serving was available for the general public to buy! This new location is an absolute treasure; not only is it near everything in Delray Beach (walking distance to all the shops and restaurants on Atlantic Ave), there’s street parking and plenty of nearby lots/garages. Everything I’ve tried at Proper has been incredibly flavorful; I highly recommend the Proper Nutella and the blood orange sorbet, but I have yet to try a flavor that wasn’t fantastic. Thanks for opening downtown! (And LOVE the new tee shirts! Mine is so soft, I’m so glad you’re selling them!)
