HH & DD

This is the true "Mom and Pop" place and the true "Word of Mouth" place. I was at my doctor's office and picked up a copy of Shalom SRQ and found an add for this place. HH&DD stands for Ham Heaven and Devil Dogs and it was in business for years in Gulf Gate. It now stands at the corner of Clark and Lockwood Ridge across from 7/11. It does not even have a sign, just a sign which says "Best Reuben in Florida". It is basically a Jewish Deli with all homemade items, but it includes tons of other dishes which are strictly American. The owner, Izzy from Brooklyn is actually Italian and he has the gift of gab and really enjoys his customers. The servings are big. I had the Reuben and could only eat half. The coleslaw was sweet and good. Mom had the chicken liver which was also very good, mom and sister had the homemade split pea soup without the ham, we had potato pancakes as well. I took home some Matzo Ball Soup and a container of rice pudding. They are open 11 - 9 everyday but Sunday.

One of the best Rueben sandwich I've ever had. Great selection of items on the menu. A New York style deli in a restaurant. Service was done by the owner and he was terrific. Go eat there!

The food here is fantastic! For beginners, there is not better potato pancake anywhere. Everything is always fresh and the owner's go out of their way to make sure you will be happy.

It was fine. The place isn't fancy but the food was good. We enjoyed our meal and will probably go again. It just wasn't "special". The matzoh ball soup was very hot (nice!) In terms of temperature. While tasty, it wasn't as good as others I have had. The corned beef sandwich was nice lean corned beef on fresh rye. The wait staff was excellent -- better than many more upscale establishments.

I’ve driven by the restaurant nearly every day since we moved here six months ago. I finally went in yesterday afternoon and ordered a famous Reuben. It did not disappoint! Melt in your mouth corn beef, and plenty of it. So much sandwich I had the second half for lunch the next day. I’ll definitely go back and recommend HH&DD to friends and family.
