This was my first time to Lemon Grass and it came highly recommended from a foodie group I'm in on Facebook. I went for lunch with a friend and ordered from their lunch menu. For only $7.95 my lunch of Pud Thai with shrimp and chicken came with soup or salad and an egg roll. It was a large.portion of food and I enjoyed the dish. My friend ordered the fried rice and her plate was piled high, too. She even had to bring half of it home in a doggy bag. The restaurant was clean, service was good, and our food was served pretty quickly even though many tables were filled. I will definitely go back to try some other dishes.
The food is pretty good. Fried rice was actually very good and so was the Pannang curry. The chicken was good but the shrimp a little overcooked. Portions are large. The peanut sauce wasn’t great and had more of a chutney feel to it, rather than a true sauce.
The dining room needs a big overhaul/update as it’s really outdated and worn.
The staff is extremely friendly and helpful but some waitresses can use some basic customer service training. Our waitress for instance just dumped a few glasses of water in front of us without ever taking any drink orders. Nor did she ever make us aware of any recommendations, specials or a desert option.
I would say this place is suitable If you’re hungry and have little expectations on a casual visit.
Having lived in the area for 30+ years I was very keenly aware of Lemon Grass' existence. I had just never been. Now that I have, it falls into that category of good, not great places for me. If I'm in the area and feeling like Thai, sure, I'll stop by. Problem is, I rarely feel like Thai in general and I'm not going out of my way to visit. Again, nothing wrong with the food, it's just not that memorable.
I had the Rama Chicken (Fried). The food hands down was delicious. My only reason for not giving 5 stars was because I wanted to substitute the steamed white rice for shrimp fried rice and I was told no twice even though I didn't have a problem paying extra to have it. The waitress claimed that they would have to give me the entree portion shrimp fried rice and I didn't want that much- I just wanted swap out steamed white rice portion for it. I'd suggest being a little more accommodating to your customers. Especially if they're willing to pay extra with no problem.
The coconut soup is incredible. Rich and just a hint of sweet. It's some of the best I've ever had. The lunch portions are also incredible. I have a very healthy appetite and it defeated me. You can plan to take some home or split it up. Not bad for a little over $8.
