Somehow I missed the descriptor of "modern take" when I saw this was a deli. From my view, modern came across as sterile and uptight. The customer base definitely supported this conclusion. I arrived for breakfast/brunch and ordered the smoked hash (a dish by which I will always judge a diner). While the crispy pastrami they used was delicious, this was in no way hash. In any other restaurant it would be referred to as a "skillet" dish, with fried potatoes, etc. Again, the modern aspect underwhelmed me.
The good news is that I seemed to be in the minority in this judgement, so I'm glad everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves and their time there, just go in with an understanding of what you're getting.
This review prompt asks to explain why I loved my experience at General Muir, but I'd be hard pressed to find a reason why I didn't love it. Late Sunday brunch, service was still excellent. Bit of a wait, but that's to be expected. Food quality was incredible - the Pastrami Poutine was decadent, and easily enough for 2 people, and the 3 Egg Omelette was divine. Possibly my favorite omelette I've ever eaten. Taste, texture, presentation were all incredible. I will absolutely be back soon, and I can't fathom anything less than another amazing experience.
The General Muir is wonderful. It's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Todd Ginsberg is a clever chef who reinvents comfort food in new ways. For example, you can get a Reuben sandwich 3 ways: corned beef, pastrami, or beets based.
The service is also great. Vegetarians will do well, Vegans will have a harder time as will gluten free folks. Wheelchair folks will do fine to, but call ahead.

I’ll give The General Muir 5 stars strictly on the taste of the cheeseburger. It was very, very good (I went with preparing it at medium and it was appropriately juicy). I like pickles, too, and it was a great add on the burger and on the side. The service was good and quick, too, since we sat at the open bar seating. Parking was free because it was validated. This place makes lists for top spots in the area and it’s worth checking out.
In general, this place is delicious. Super unique in the Atlanta market and reminds us of the NYC delis we love. The baked goods are delicious and on the right day the bagels are the best you can find here. In recent months, service has really slipped. It’s gone from personable and meaningful to somewhat sloppy and careless. The last few times we’ve visited the prep stations on the deli side have been a mess, bits and pieces of other orders making their way onto your bagel. For example a huge lump of salmon and onions stuck to the bottom of my sesame cream cheese bagel. A little off putting! We really want to see the GM restored to its former glory. Bring back staff who care about the customer and take pride in your beautiful space and delicious offerings!
