Great food. Update* Permanently closed*
It's truly soul food cooking with a smile. The portion sizes are good and the price is right for a family. The building is old and no A/C, but everything tastes great! If you don't mind the rustic look and large fan, you will love the food.
I visited the Atlanta area a few years ago, never forgot about my lunch as Thelma' s... the nicest people you've ever met, clean... BBQ AND GREENS SO GOOD YOU'D SLAP YOUR MAMA! I'm a raving fan! On my way to Virginia Beach with a detour into Sweet Arbourn for Thelma' s
I walked past Thelma's on the way to visit Dr. King's home. When is saw the place I knew it was a place I had to try. When I walked in an older gentleman welcomed me right away. He described what they had and how I could pick one main course and two sides. I picked ribs, Mac and cheese and sweet potato casserole. I also received a cornbread muffin. Wow! I took seat in the back. I felt like I was in an old church basement at the best potluck in church history. Two older gentlemen were. I siting about days gone by and how much easier life was now. I didn't want to leave but an empty plate was now in front of me and I had to go. When you are in the "Sweet Auburn" part if Atlanta you must take a chance on this cultural gem. It's well worth the time and chance to make some new friends.
Loved it!!! Just like my mom cooks soul food!
