We’ve been going to this location for years and years (since they originally opened). There has apparently been a change in ownership (and at least some, if not all the staff is new) and it now is called Ume. We had a very mixed experience at Ume that was different than any previous visit at Ru San’s.

    Pros:
    - Food was outstanding (as good or better as it has been).
    - Interior has been updated.
    - Sever was friendly and apologetic.

    Cons:
    - Service was crazy slow. (Our food took over half an hour and a table was seated behind us and walked out after waiting for over ten minutes with no server greeting them).
    - Server had no knowledge of the cold sake that was available so brought us a tray with all the bottles they offer.
    - Server was completely unfamiliar with the menu and we had to repeat our order multiple times.
    - There was a definite language barrier with the server (and appeared to be one between the server and the kitchen). Because of this language barrier (and lack of menu knowledge) there was confusion over the house fried rice. She seemed to think we needed to pick a protein when in fact it comes with multiple protein types. A chef actually came out and asked if we had placed our order which made me wonder if the server had failed to ring it in. After we received the food, the chef apologized about the confusion with the fried rice and essentially through the server under the bus.
    - All the food came out at once. We are used to getting the calamari and tempura first (and we asked for this) followed by the sushi and entree items. There was hardly enough room on the table for three people’s worth of food since they brought everything out at once. When we asked about the calamari coming out first she acted like the kitchen made a mistake and apologized for how long the kitchen was taking.

These guys have good sushi. I observed that its mostly deep fried (I am sure its called something specific). However, if you like fried sushi then this is the place for you. It offers a lot of that.

I would have preferred that it also has a few more main dishes. The only offer like 2 dishes more 1 of which is Rice, 1 is noodles and 1 more main dish made of chicken. Overall a decent place for the price.
