Royal Cafe

This place is the real deal when it comes to Southern home cooking. I've lived in Columbus basically my whole life and I don't remember a time it wasn't here. The food is fresh, never frozen, and delicious. The menu changes daily, but for the regular lunch you choose a meat and three sides, plus bread and a dessert! There is also the option of a veggie plate.

Small operation. Cover up with people. Food was good. Nice portion size. Good home like food. Service was slow. Only two out front. Running like crazy trying to service everyone.

Friendly fun staff. I absolutely loved the sticky notes everywhere. The ice cream was almost too cold lol if that's possible. Like it just wasn't creamy enough I guess but still super good and will be back. First time here and this place is a small gem! Food was phenomenal and perfectly priced. The pound cake at the end sealed the deal. I will be back whenever I'm in Columbus!

Friendly staff, fresh food, and a welcoming atmosphere have always made Royal one of my favorite places to eat. I lived in the area for 43 years before leaving (retired to FL) in 2005. Yesterday was the first time in 14 years since I had visited the cafe. The food was not quite as good as I remember it being, the portions seemed smaller, and the price had increased in those past 14 years. That being said, I would still recommend Royal for newcomers to try, but I will probably not be in any rush for a return visit.
