M&M Wing Shack is a new fast casual restaurant in Augusta that focuses on wings, sandwiches, etc.
I enjoyed a buffalo shrimp po-boy meal/combo when I ate there earlier this month. The bread was not a New Orlean’s style crusty French bread but the roll used was soft in the middle, toasted on the edges and made a great alternative. The shrimp used were substantial in size and well fried, providing good hearty bites throughout the sandwich. They dress the sandwich in the common manner, lettuce, tomatoes, a lite mayonnaise spread and the sizing is appropriate for a single meal.
For my side, I had their crinkle cut fries. Once again, their fry cook knows their stuff and the fries were soft inside with crunchy exteriors. Caveat, I ate my fries quickly after receiving them. If you take them to-go in the closed styrofoam container and drive for 15-20 minutes, they will re-steam themselves and become a mushy mess. The sandwich will save for the ride, the fries will not.
My final note for the food is actually the lemonade I had with my meal. I’m not sure exactly how it was made but it had a unique flavor profile. It didn’t taste like it came from their fountain machine, I would guess it was likely either a homemade recipe or powdered mix. This is not a negative or a positive comment, just something of note.
As the restaurant is of a fast casual variety, the seating is limited and on a first come, first occupied basis.
The staff was very friendly and the speed of service was appropriate.
The restaurant is located in a gas station parking lot, adjacent to the convenience store. So parking should be no issue for a restaurant without the expectation of long term sit down meals. The location is on Heard Ave/Olive Road, in the first commercial lot southwest of the train track overpass.
M&M Wing Shack’s interior was very clean and well maintained, I can’t speak to the bathrooms but I expect they are of a similar nature.
The restaurant’s most substantial flaw I can currently see is their online presence. They are new, so that may be part of the reason but if you didn’t drive by, you might not know the restaurant exists. I hope they’ll find themselves with an entry on yelp and tripadvisor soon. Their website is also rather stark and without a full menu including prices and they seem to be a bit difficult to find on search engines and the corresponding interactive maps. Speaking of prices, I felt they were quite reasonable.
There’s a lot left on the menu for me to try and I look forward to another trip back.
