I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly feel like this place is overrated.
My rating standards depend on various variables. I did not like the atmosphere it felt like everything like the chairs and tables were old. The staff were average because the people making my sandwich acted like I was an idiot when it was the first time I’ve been in the restaurant and I didn’t know how everything worked, but the cashier was very friendly. The sandwiches are overrated. Don’t get me wrong their HUGE so definitely worth the money and you can tell they put a lot of meat and cheese. But in terms of taste, it tasted like an average sandwich just with extra meat and cheese, it does not stand out except in terms of size. I would still rather go to Potbellys before coming here. I really do not understand the hype my friends were talking about.
By far one of the best sub places in Chicago everytime I'm in the Taylor Street area this is a must go. They have several signature sandwiches but my all-time favorite is the Blockbuster it is packed with flavor and different Italian Salamis that are just absolutely delicious. I also enjoyed their meatball sandwiches. I have frequent this place for almost 30 years I just retired from the area but every time I get a chance I come to fontano's.
????????????????????????????
The taste-epic.
They have the best meats, best cheese, best & freshest breads, oils, etc.
Its arguably the best of its kind within this galaxy..yet based on the super prices, and they obviously give you too much everything- every time..i dont understand how they ever really make money.
Crazy.
Crazy delicious.
This place is top notch. Best sub in Chicago hands down. Neil is carrying on the family legacy.
If you like subs you’ll love Fontano’s. If you don’t like subs you probably will after going to Fontano’s.
True Italian neighborhood spot with the type of food you would expect from an old family run deli.
Check it out, you won’t regret it.
They never disappoint with the quality of food or customer service. All the cold subs are excellent, but be sure to also give the hot food a chance. Great Italian beef and meatball sandwiches, along with very good homemade soup. Don't forget the cannoli for dessert!
