The Red Lion is the best of an English pub in Chicago. They have an excellent selection of beers on tap as well as a great selection of whiskeys. The service is outstanding. Also, the food is very good. The Red Lion is the best blend of a Chicago bar and an English pub.
A true British pub. Amazing beer, great food, and beautiful space. I usually come here in the evenings for a beer or whisky with friends. The two chairs by the fire are the best.
Really cool British-themed pub in the heart of Lincoln Park. We hung out with some friends and had a good time. Menu is also themed United Kingdom, with a menu full of items such as:
Scotch Egg
Poutine (good stuff, get if you can!)
Fish n Chips (a safe bet)
Irish Nachos
English Mac n Cheese (basically Mac n cheese but x10 better)
We easily had no wait on prime one Saturday 7:00pm. Not sure if normal or if we got lucky, going to have to see if we can pull that off next time we come back!
I've hosted two events here, attended a third, and gone for dinner and drinks multiple times. The atmosphere is wonderfully cozy, the food is delicious, the drinks are great and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The historically themed decor is an extra level above and beyond. They have an upper balcony area with a fireplace that you can reserve for 10-12 people and that works great for small gatherings. If you have more than 12, you can reserve the front room, which has a two-sided fireplace and perfectly imitates a British or Irish pub. For food, I particularly recommend the ploughman's and the pretzel with dipping sauce.
Terrific neighborhood pub with a respectable beer list, and fine authentic food options. Fresh ingredients that are well prepared. Walls, and the owner, are a treasure of history and real life heroes. It's the kind of neighborhood pub Chicago used to be full of, with the owner in site who's ready to be personable and appreciates your business. Great place to hangout with your friends, or bring the family. The kids will learn true history while they eat. Don't miss out on this type of experience.
