Glunz Tavern is my new favorite spot in Chicago. The restaurant and shop are full of history (it opened in 1888!) and I love the old world feel to it. They serve excellent German food with a great selection of beer, wine, and whisk(e)y. Everything is decently priced and the owner is often there talking with customers. It's a classic gem with good food that's definitely worth going to. Oh, and get the schnitzel!

Extremely good German food with excellent service. Reminds me of my grandmother's cooking.

Good European beers and a very lengthy wine list. Try the Loaded Spätzel. Great specials on the Tuesday night we visited. Very nice outdoor area.

The food was fantastic. I got the smoked bacon waffle and it filled me up. It was a little sweet but so good. The water and the mimosas were room temperature which left a lot to be desired though. It was good but nothing special, at least for brunch.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Fair prices, good service, charming history, wine selection on point.

    HONEST ASSESSMENT:
I honestly love Glunz. It's my place to sit back and not hurry out. I've been twice in the past month. Both times were to take part in their Wednesday burger deal - $6 for a high quality, juicy burger of the week, then we got a bottle of wine. You know that price is seriously unbeatable... Service has always been so great. It's also one of the oldest buildings in Old Town, so perfect for taking visitors. Don't sleep on their drink selection - and take note - their store next door has legitimately good wine at any price point.
