Shelly's Tasty Freeze

It's alright. Seems kinda pricy... strawberry malt I threw away..

The food is good, fast and tasty. The shakes are even better. Great place for a quick bite!

There's been a Shelly's Tasty Freeze at this location as long as I can remember, and then some. We'd ride our bikes over after playing. Or come here first, then go shopping at the Jewel - before it closed and became a Walgreens. Only a few blocks away. I'd come for the same thing. Soft serve ice cream, in that same crispy orange cone. Those were the days. Never had a stale cone, or odd tasting ice cream. Just perfect. I'd always get vanilla. Never lasted as long as I'd want. Took a second before it started to melt. The perfect texture to lick and savor for just a moment. Tried to lick one side then the other to keep it even, then always had to devour the whole thing at once before it got too hot. If I waited, I'd always have a mess. Never seemed to have enough of those thin little napkins to wipe off my hands. Odd to say I never had anything else here, but it's true. Just wanted a Tasty Freeze. That special treat. If Shelly's is not historic it should be. Owners, staff change, decor changes, but it's been here over 50 years. A neighborhood institution. There's nothing more refreshing on a hot day.
