Al's Beef

Overall the food was good. The BBQ fries were awesome, although my wife asked for no lettuce on her sandwich and came with lettuce and they remade it and it was a burger instead of chicken. They overcharged us when we were suppose to get combos.

A go-to destination every time I'm in Chicago. I haven't been to this location before but it was consistent with others.

I usually get the beef with hot peppers and provalone. The hot peppers are hot enough to leave a bit of a burn on your lips. DELICIOUS.

Do not take these to go if you get them dipped. While the buns are robust, even the most glutenous bread can't withstand a dip and sitting wrapped in the juices for too long.

Why 3 stars? Well one of the top things to do in Chicago is try and Italian beef right? Well Al's Beef, albeit nice is not the best, there are better hole in the wall joints to try and Italian beef. The interior was old and dated, they had no ketchup and the floor was greasy / slippy. The food was OK not the famous sandwich I had been promised. The staff looked and acted as if they were trying to see the day out. There are better sandwiches

The food here is amazing. Simple menu. But lots of flavor! I recommend the Italian beef sandwich dipped, with cheese and hot peppers. Life changing flavor. And this is a special Chicago offering, you can't get this anywhere else! The restaurant is nothing special: it's small with few places to eat. But you don't need much to enjoy this, just a counter to put your sandwich on while you eat!
