A great idea with a great environment. It's a restaurant incubator with many different chefs with many different specialties. Hence, all the food selections were unique/different in some way. This made them fun to try but not always good. However, the quality was outstanding and ambiance was extremely modern, if not a little dark. I went for a social event so I cannot speak to prices.
Taste 222 was a total surprise for me. I was searching for somewhere to go after celebrating a big professional milestone I had passed and came across Taste 222 as I wasn't feeling Italian food and it was near where my friend works so easy for her to get to. Great street parking available outside the place which is a rarity in the loop. The decor is fabulous; very trendy, with upscale touches and a sprinkle of sports bar. Definitely a place a group of girls could get together to have drinks or a group of dudes could get together and do...whatever dudes do together. I was greeted by wonderfully friendly staff that showed me to my seat . The wait staff and other staff were top notch here. Very friendly, kind, funny and personable. All food was piping hot and fresh. We started with their spinach salad and their whipped ricotta which i think was honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal. the sourdough bread came out piping hot and well buttered and the whipped ricotta was so light, delicately sweet and enhanced by pepper and rosemary. My entree was the lamb chops with macaroni cooked medium (and it was expertly cooked) and was delicious and juicy and filling even if it might not look it!. My friend had the pecan crusted catfish which had the most wonderful smoky, woody flavor to it with a nice fat, fluffy fish. Their banana bread pudding is out o this world it is so good. i don't even like bread pudding but this is the exception to the rule. By happenstance we ended up meeting the owners of this establishment who greeted us warmly, thanked us for dining and were so humble and down to earth. It was as much of pleasure to meet the as it was for us to dine there. I will definitely be coming back. It is priced similarly or better than restaurants in the area and with the ease of parking and the wonderful food and wait staff, arguably provides a way better deal than you'll get from similar restaurants in the area. If I could give it more stars I would. Wonderful time. Thank you, Taste 222!
The interior decoration is probably the pinnacle of Taste 222. The staff were nice, accepted the cake we had to be brought to the table uncut - although this is apparently contrary to their policy. The catfish was mediocre, the steak was much better (recommended). Lamb loin was delicious and the Brussels sprout appetizer very tasty. The communication with the server wasn’t very easy but didn’t cause any severe problem. It’s nice that they have a coat closet. Comparing the quality, size and price of the food I can’t convince myself to give them a 5/5; they were good at best!
My first visit to Taste 222. Nice place in River north. Excellent drink flight and delicious appetizers. We had chicken wings and brussel sprout flat bread. Service was also excellent. Check it out sometime.
Coffee and food are outstanding for morning and mid-day. Afternoon drinks can be hit or miss but largely well thought through. Overall an awesome environment with good food/drink, great decor, and top notch production value.
