Luella's is a great place. The restaurant itself is very small, and be prepared to wait for your food. There is only one cook and it can take 10-20 minutes before your food is finished. The cajun chicken and dipping sauce is incredible. Biscuits are huge and hearty. Great food. Nice people.
Both dinner and brunch are excellent! My friend only eats dark meat, and there was no option to only order dark.
The chicken is crispy and super flavorful. The waffle has the large sugar crystal that you’d find in a liege waffle - so extra special!
The seating is limited and you may get stuck in the middle of an awkward bench seat with no easy access - totally worth it for the chicken!
Great customer service. Nice guys. Helped to recommend to what I should order. Great food!
His original restaurant, Luella's Southern Kitchen, is my wife and I's favorite spot, so we had to check out the new place. I will say, I am not big on fried chicken. I just about never go to a fried chicken place myself unless I'm outvoted in present company, but the gospel bird fried chicken here was insanely delicious. I usually find fried chicken to be bland and boring, but the sauce on that made all those issues go away. I've seen this guy cook many different dishes with them all ending up gold so I wasn't terribly surprised. Also, it's the same dish at Southern Kitchen, but they're the best I've ever had so make absolute sure you get the biscuits and jam.
I have a mixed review for this restaurant. Initially, and very clearly, the fried chicken at this place is overpriced. However, the meal was mostly enjoyable and quite good. I will make a couple of recommendations, though. First, if you are seated in the restaurant and order the fried chicken, let the chicken “rest“ for a few minutes, after it is served to you. We engaged our meal, immediately after it was served. I found that the chicken tasted quite a bit better, after it had settled for a few minutes. The sides were nice, though I did have to add a bit of seasoning. Overall, the meal was okay, but the price was extreme considering the quality. We were able to find street parking, immediately in front of the restaurant. The restaurant decor needs a hard re-do.
