I've been to Home Bistro several times over the past few years, since I live next door, and have always been impressed with the menu and service. Yesterday's experience was slightly disappointing.
I checked the menu online and saw that there seemed to be a selection of vegan dishes, since 2 people in my party are vegans. The waiter was most disappointing. They were extremely apathetic and unhelpful to the needs of my vegan friends and the ability to offer suggestions or substitutes was nonexistent. I'm allergic to tree nuts and there was no mention of dishes that contain nuts or help with obscure menu items. It was clear he didn't care. The saffron rice was inedible, for it tasted like soapy dishwater, perhaps too much saffron was added? He even suggested we go across the street to Chicago Diner at one point!
I was looking forward to a wonderful experience with my boyfriend and close friend who was back in town visiting but this experience was definitely not worth the money. For its cozy bistro style and semi-upscale menu I expect better service and better food. The BYOB option was the best experience of the night.

Our favorite! Food is always phenomenal and changes seasonally. The staff is super welcoming and gives a serious family dinner vibe to every meal. To top it off it is BYO!

A small and cozy restaurant. Small menu but with tons of cool stuff. Staff was super friendly and it's a BYOB. Definitely worth stopping by.

Cozy atmosphere and truly comforting food. Portions large enough to share and the desserts are killer!

We got the heirloom tomatoes appetizer and it was so fresh. Our entree was a super tender braised pork shoulder with creamed corn.

Would recommend this to anyone looking for somewhere intimate without any fuss.
