We had hot pot. The ingredients were of very high-quality. The broths were very tasty. Well the meat was very good. You could tell that they cut it before because the slices were a little bit stuck together. It did not change the taste.
I've been eating in Chinatown for more than 10 years and somehow had never been to Spicy Spirit until now. Overall I think the quality of food is better than most places in the area. I took off a star because of little things like that rice isn't included with the entrees. Usually when you have a group of 10 people and order a ton of food, most Chinese places will give you a couple bowls of rice. In fact, they're usually surprised if you don't want rice. But here, you have to order it for an additional cost. I realize this is pretty minor and I shouldn't be expecting anything for free, but it's a difference in the experience compared to competing restaurants.
This is the restaurant I go back to the most in Chinatown. The food is authentic, the dishes are things you don't get in other places, and most importantly they're willing to accommodate my Vegetarian palate. They actually make dishes off menu that are vegetarian by asking the Chefs for me. This along with Xi'an Cuisine are the most exciting places in the hood.
