So, we were regulars at the old WonderBurger. Since it closed I have become a vegetarian. I was excited to see a meatless option on the menu and ordered it. When the bill came I saw it was a $4 upcharge; THAT WASN'T WRITTEN ON THE MENU. Nor did my server say that. A wonderburger is $4, so twice as much is a big deal. Had I known that, I would have ordered something different. You have to post the price or have a server inform the guest. I was disappointed.
My family has been regulars at the original Wonderburger since the 70s. When the original location announced that they were closing we went multiple times before the doors finally shut and we've been missing it ever since. We were so excited and overjoyed to hear of the reopening and in it's return Wonderburger brought one of my favorite dives into 2019.
The food tasted exactly as I remember, from to the toasted bun, half slice of cheese and special sauce on the Wonderburger to the curly fries and chicken dumpling soup!
The fresh and bright ambiance is a modern and impactful tribute to the location on Kedzie. We will definitely continue being regulars and I am so happy that I am able to pass the Wonderburger tradition to my future kids!
To the reviewers who are complaining about the size of the patties at Wonderburger, you shouldn't knock a great burger based on the thickness of the beef. Wonderburger has always been a well-loved staple, and I'm thrilled that they reopened. Sixty years of burger-making is nothing to sneeze at and as far as the curly fries go, they are THE BEST! None of that Arby's-type nonsense here. They've been open less than two weeks after a five-year gap, give the wait staff some time to "gel." Thank you, Wonderburger, for coming back to Mt. Greenwood!
