When a place is famous for something I expect to be at least slightly excited while there. If Pete's has been around so long and so successful, they should have put some money back into the place, because it's in need of repair. Needs a lot of fixing and replacing. Even a fresh coat of paint would do wonders. The food we had was nothing thrilling. Chicago style that weren't actually Chicago Style (no celery salt, no seeded bun), and my dad said the tamales tasted like they were 2 days old. Honestly weren't much impressed with the food (Especially almost $9 for a two hotdog basket, which is better and cheaper -$6- at Doggie Diner). There are two things that saved them from less stars.... The two working (One who I believe was Pete) were so very friendly. I mean I feel bad giving them a somewhat negetive review because they were so nice; But nice doesn't pay the bills so please if you read this take this as constructive criticism. I will say this, buy the hot sauce! I couldn't resist the way Pete talked up the hot sauce and got some for my boyfriend, who has been craving a good hot sauce but hasn't been able to find one. I didn't have much hope but he said it is actually really good. We got the hottest one, the Pete's F&@k off and die and burn in hell, bottle by recommendation of Pete. I've heard the others are good as well. I would say it was a popular spot, lots of workers stopping for lunch, so doesn't hurt to give it a try!
Great lil hot dog spot... The other stuff that I've tried has been good too
Great little place. I've passed a few times and never stopped and finally decided to. I didn't get any "signature" food, so I can't comment much on the offerings, however, they do have a rather large menu. The hot dogs and fries were good.
I think the service is most people come for. I'm not sure if it was THE Pete taking orders but he seemed to know everyone. If he didn't, he sure made you feel like it. He was kind and chatted with everyone that walked to the counter. He thanked everyone on their way out and said "see ya next time". That doesn't happen often anymore. The only downside of this place is that it's not closer to me.
Pete's famous Hot Dogs is a perfect little food joint to stop at. The staff are friendly, funny, and generally nice to be around. The food is really good. The pickled eggs, hot dogs, fries and burgers are all very good. The food also comes out super quickly. If I was around this area more often, I'd definitely come back!
Hidden little gem in a small town. Ordered 2 dogs Chicago style. No complaints on the food. Only 4 stars because the place could use an update and clean
