They smother a lot of dishes with paprika. If you ask for minimal or no paprika then you will enjoy the gammas as ajillo more, as well as the calamari, and other dishes. Overall though, the food is good, served as soon as it is made which is good, and pretty fast. Good selection of Spanish wines and Cava as well, which are often underrated in the US. The Paella (sp) was good although not particularly authentic compared to the way they served it in Spain. Overall, a good addition to the Highwood restaurant scene.

Wow after living in Spain for a few years it’s cool to see tapas. Has an American twist and that’s okay don’t expect the same you would get in madrid! To be honest their tapas have a bit more spice than the average tapa bar!!

We were so excited when we saw this place opened. We love Spanish food and Tapas del Lago didn't fail us.
The flavor profile is on point, we love the watermelon spritz. We started with patatas bravas, calamari and apple salad. Gio, our server recommended the Pulpo (Octopus) and it was such a delight. Service was impeccable. We gave 4 stars for the atmosphere because the music was too loud. We will definitely come back.

TAPAS DEL LAGO ~ An amazing little gem with BIG FLAVOR in Highwood!
The atmosphere is cozy and inviting.
Ben ~ the owner/executive chef is so friendly! He’s obviously knowledgeable and dedicated to his love of flavorful cuisine. The waitstaff is well informed and ready to offer suggested pairings. The colorful tapas menu is loaded with flavor and the presentation is spot on! The petite bar shares a robust selection of unique Spanish wines & spirits.
Tapas style dining offers the opportunity to try a flavorful variety of shareable courses.
You won’t be disappointed AND…your tastebuds will thank you!

Here’s what you need to know: food was delicious, and service was very courteous despite the expected growing pains (food going to wrong tables, long delays in taking orders) but overall it’s a good new addition to the local restaurant scene in Highwood’s restaurant row and I would definitely recommend it. Ambiance is OK - very simple and a shared bathroom in the next door restaurant is less than ideal. Just be patient while this brand new week old restaurant figures out the kinks.

Of course it’s a joy to support local small Business, one that is making good food. We enjoyed everything fr we ordered but the house bread and the shrimp gambas. The house bread needs an immediate change - it’s just not good. Which is a conflict with the other delicious food. The shrimp
Gambas tastes like a bland cream sauce and that should be adjusted to an intense Spanish style sauce .
Other than that the potatoes, octopus, meatballs, calamari were all excellent. Very courteous service by Juan.
