My first memory of going to The Lantern was back in 1986 when I was in 4th grade. Fast forward in time, I still go there on a regular basis, usually once a week for a family dinner ranging from 4 to 8 people.
The food has always been awesome that I remember and the menu has evolved over time. They have specials regularly which keeps things interesting and the pricing is very reasonable.
Service is solid and they usually have good wait staff and “bus boys” who are on top of cleaning the tables as you finish with a plate and/or glass. They do seem to have a lot of turnover in the wait staff due to Lake Forest being a college town but there are some staples that have been there including Ira and Kosta (sp?) who train the new staff properly.
Highly recommend this place if you are visiting or a local to the area.
Great place to take the kids or even better have a beer with your buddies. The kids love the trains and I love the cheap drinks.
Great bar in downtown Lake Forest. Typical bar offerings. Good service, great prices. It's not a fancy place like some other ones in Lake Forest, but if you want a place to bring the kids for lunch/dinner or simply a place to catch a beer with a friend than this is your place.
Food was good, service was quick. It's a little more pub atmosphere than description let on. I had salmon sandwich and tots.
