I really can't tell you much about most of the food at The Overlook. I get the fried chicken every time. It's one of the few remaining places that can do it right. Crunchy outside, moist inside, and HOT.
Now that I think of it, I don't know anyone that's had anything besides the chicken. It's like a meal made by your grandma or favorite aunt.
Their sides are the basic ones you'd expect. The desserts include cakes, cobblers and pies, some that are made in-house and some from a local bakery. With the desserts, we're back in the grandma / favorite aunt area again.
Then there's the view. It's very picturesque bend in the Ohio River, and you can see it from the tables, and two different decks. They picked an excellent spot.
The view is spectacular! Service... not so much. Waitress recommended their famous meatloaf and pot pie. Ummm... she then admitted she doesn't even eat there... I can see why... terribly sweet sauce on meatloaf. Pot pie was $14.00... had about 1/2 cup filling and even less taste. The house Sangria was orange juice over a full cup of ice.. a whopping $10.00 price tag! Waitress said it was $2.00... she later stated she meant $10.00!! Overall, for two lunches, bill was almost $65.00!! Waitress smiled and reminded us we were paying for the view. Not a total loss though...Chocolate cake from a box was quite good!
What a cute little place with such a beautiful view! We have been twice and I have liked everything I tried, and the prices are great! They sell baked goods and candies up front too. There is a bar downstairs that is the same company and you can sit out on the deck while you eat. The service was excellent and the hostess was sweet and helpful. Check it out for a Saturday excursion...or any day!
This is a largely undiscovered treasure, it seems. Outstanding food, trending towards comfort food with a few more upscale/adventurous meals thrown in for good measure.
The breaded tenderloin sandwich is well above average, my wife and the golden sea bass and said it was outstanding.
The service is friendly, and the view of the river is amazing. Well worth a visit.
