Service was excellent! Food was really good tonight!
First of all, the service was great!
Ok, now to the food:
I like to categorize steak into a few brackets.
1. The prime time - these are your delicacy type $70+ steaks
2. The really good - these are your really good steaks that are in the $30 - $70 range, usually best bang for your buck type steaks.
3. The Applebee’s/Chili’s style cheap steaks.
Now, I’ve had a some 5 star steaks in the #3 category, but I’ve also had some really crappy steak in the #1 category.
So Gilbert’s ribeye falls in the #3 category and for the category it was good, hence the 4 stars. It has the potential to be great. The cut itself had the potential to compete with a pretty decent #2 steak, but the kitchen needs to learn what a true ‘medium’ is. Not medium rare.
Had the NY steak medium-rare and it was more on the medium side. Good flavor, but a little chewy. The broccoli was steamed right. Bread was OK and house salad average. Not a ton of great options in Vincennes, so I'd go back if I was in town again.
Tonight I picked up blackened salmon and two green veggies. What a great, delicious meal! Love the salmon and the veggies were spectacular, coated with garlic butter and tenderly wrapped separately in foil. On a cold night, my dinner was still hot when I got home. I will definitely do this again!
